European countries are considering imposing new sanctions on Iranian officials while Iran's currency, the rial, has hit record lows against the US dollar.

According to Arab News, in the context of the government's brutal crackdown on Iranian protesters, European countries are discussing imposing sanctions on 37 Tehran officials and organizations.

Iran's increasing isolation in the international community is also due to its role in spreading unrest in the Middle East and supplying drones that have caused mass casualties and destruction in Ukraine.

Relations between the European Union and Tehran have been strained in recent months as efforts to revive nuclear talks have stalled.

Iran has detained several European citizens and Tehran has faced criticism for its violent treatment of protesters and increased executions.

The EU bloc's foreign ministers are close to agreeing to adopt a fourth package of sanctions against Tehran at a previously scheduled meeting in Brussels on Monday.

The European Parliament on Wednesday called on the European Union to list Iran's Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist group.

The country's maritime authority said this week that Panama's ship registry has removed its flag from 136 ships linked to Iran's state oil company over the past four years.

After the death of Mehsa Amini by the moral police in Iran, protests are going on all over the country.

According to the United Nations, Iran has arrested 14,000 people in these protests.

Authorities have executed four people for "inciting unrest" and sentenced a total of 18 to death, sparking international outrage against Iran.

The European Union has already imposed asset freezes and visa bans on more than 60 Iranian officials and institutions in response to the crackdown on protesters.

According to the foreign exchange site bonbast.com, on Saturday, one dollar was selling for 447,000 rials in Iran's unofficial market, which was 430,000 rials the day before.

The rial has depreciated by 29 percent since the nationwide protests began.
